Skin overview

★ Survival Knife | Rust Coat covers the blade in mottled orange-brown rust over grey steel, while the black composite handle stays unpainted. In Well-Worn the rust is lighter, and more of the cool grey-blue metal shows between the spots, so the blade looks weathered rather than corroded through. This is the cleaner of the two grades, and the blade shape with its gut hook and serrations stays easy to read.

Item type: knife. Covert is the top weapon rarity: usually the most prominent items of a collection or case.

Patina: an aged metal surface; wear is part of the design, so the gap between qualities is less visible.

How the skin looks in Well-Worn

The finish sits only on the blade: grey steel with a blue tint is spotted with orange and brown rust that gathers more densely along the serrated spine, around the gut hook and near the guard. The long cutout in the blade and the bevel keep a slightly lighter metallic sheen under the rust. The handle is dark grey-black composite with moulded grip panels and hex bolts, and it carries no finish. As float rises, the rust spreads and darkens across the flat of the blade, starting from the edges, the serrations and the tip, until the bare steel is mostly covered.

Rust covers much of the blade, but grey-blue steel still shows clearly across the flat and along the cutout. The spots are heavier at the serrations, the gut hook and the tip, which are the first areas to darken. At normal viewing distance in game the blade reads as light, speckled metal with warm brown accents. The composite handle looks the same as on any copy.

Well-Worn wear: float 0.4–0.45

The whole float range of ★ Survival Knife | Rust Coat is 0.4–1; Well-Worn takes the 0.4–0.45 segment (8% of the scale). The lower the float within the range, the cleaner the surface looks and the higher a copy is usually priced.

What to check before buying

  • Check where the float sits in the range, because on this finish a lower float means more visible steel and a higher one means heavier rust.
  • Look at the inspect image of the blade flat, since the rust spots are placed differently from copy to copy.
  • Check the serrations, gut hook and tip, as they darken first and set the overall tone of the blade.
  • Decide whether you want a StatTrak™ version or a name tag, because both affect what you are paying for.

Who should buy Well-Worn

  • Players who want the rugged look but prefer some visible steel and a lighter blade in hand.
  • Collectors putting together the cleanest available grades of patina knives.
  • Conclusion: the balanced choice if you want rust without losing the metal.
