Skin overview

The finish is a red base with a black spider web on the blade, set against plain dark handles. Battle-Scarred copies lose much of the red to bare steel, especially toward the tip and edge, leaving patches of colour with fragments of web. It is the most affordable way to carry the butterfly animations with this finish.

Item type: knife. Covert is the top weapon rarity: usually the most prominent items of a collection or case.

Hydrographic: the pattern is applied as a film over the metal; wear rubs it down to the base, starting with raised parts.

Appearance in Battle-Scarred

The blade is coated in a deep red base with a black spider web hydrographic and a semi-gloss topcoat. The handles are dark grey metal with cut-outs and carry no pattern, and the small latch near the pivot is red.

Much of the blade is stripped to bare steel, with the heaviest loss at the tip and edge. The red remains in patches closer to the pivot, carrying broken pieces of the web. In game the knife shows a mix of silver and red rather than a solid colour. The handles are the least affected part.

Battle-Scarred wear: float 0.45–0.8

The whole float range of ★ Butterfly Knife | Crimson Web is 0.06–0.8; Battle-Scarred takes the 0.45–0.8 segment (47% of the scale). Within the range, copies with a lower float look cleaner and are valued higher.

Origin of the skin

It drops from Operation Breakout Weapon Case (on sale since Jun 23, 2014) as a rare special item.

What to look at before you buy

  • Check the web placement on the blade, since a clear, centred web is valued more than scattered lines.
  • Compare the float within the wear range, because the lower end keeps more red on the edge and tip.
  • Inspect the tip, cutting edge and spine, where bare steel shows first.
  • Look for a name tag and the StatTrak™ counter if those matter to you.

Who should buy Battle-Scarred

  • Budget buyers who want a Butterfly Knife first and the finish second.
  • Those who like a heavily used, rugged look.
  • The cheapest entry into this knife and skin.
