Skin overview

Case Hardened turns the compact push daggers into a patchwork of steel, gold and blue, with no two copies coloured quite alike. In Field-Tested the colours are still clearly visible, but scuffs start to show on the handle edges and blade tips. For many players this is the point where the look is recognisable and the price is more relaxed.

Item type: knife. Covert is the top weapon rarity: usually the most prominent items of a collection or case.

Patina: an aged metal surface; wear is part of the design, so the gap between qualities is less visible.

How the skin looks in Field-Tested

Both daggers share one finish: the double-edged blades and the T-shaped handles with their finger cut-outs are covered in a case-hardened patina over silver steel. Gold and pale yellow tones fill much of the blades, broken by patches of blue and violet that spread across the flats and run onto the handle frames.

Light scuffs show on the cutting edges, the tips and around the handle cut-outs, where bare steel begins to break through the colour. The patina on the blade flats is still largely complete, though slightly less vivid. In game the pattern is clearly readable and the wear is noticeable mainly during inspect. The central parts of the blades keep most of their colour.

Field-Tested wear: float 0.15–0.38

The whole float range of ★ Shadow Daggers | Case Hardened is 0–1; Field-Tested takes the 0.15–0.38 segment (23% of the scale). The lower the float within the range, the cleaner the surface looks and the higher a copy is usually priced.

Origin of the skin

It is the rare special item of Shadow Case (on sale since Sep 15, 2015) — knives and gloves drop far less often than the regular contents.

What to check before buying

• Compare the amount of blue and gold on both blades, since the pattern defines the look of each copy as much as the wear does.
• Check the blade tips and the rims of the handle cut-outs, as these lose colour first.
• Look at where the float sits within the wear grade, because copies near the cleaner end show noticeably less scuffing.
• Make sure the visible side in the inspect animation carries the colours you want, as the two daggers can differ.
