Skin overview

SSG 08 | Abyss is recognisable by its dark sea-blue camouflage over the scope, receiver and stock frame. In Field-Tested the blue starts to thin on edges and protruding parts, and grey metal shows through in places. At normal distance the rifle still reads as blue, just with a used look.

Item type: sniper rifle. Mil-Spec Grade is the lowest rarity found in cases and the most common one among them.

Patina: an aged metal surface; wear is part of the design, so the gap between qualities is less visible.

Other qualities of this skin: Factory New, Minimal Wear, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred. The same quality also exists as the StatTrak™ version.

Appearance in Field-Tested

The hydrographic covers the scope, receiver, handguard and stock frame in dark navy and teal with irregular cyan streaks, like light under the water surface. The barrel is left dark grey, the muzzle brake is a lighter grey and the bipod stays black.

Wear is visible on the scope rings, the scope tube, the receiver top edges and the handguard rails, where grey metal shows through. The cyan highlights lose some brightness. At normal distance the rifle still looks blue, with lighter spots on the edges. The flat sides of the receiver and stock frame stay mostly clean.

Field-Tested wear: float 0.15–0.38

The float of Souvenir SSG 08 | Abyss ranges from 0 to 1; the Field-Tested quality covers 0.15–0.38 — 23% of this skin’s scale. Within the range, copies with a lower float look cleaner and are valued higher.

Where the skin comes from: collection and case

The skin’s collection is The Breakout Collection with 14 skins in total.

The source is Operation Breakout Weapon Case (on sale since Jun 23, 2014).

Souvenir version

This is the Souvenir version: such copies dropped to tournament viewers in souvenir packages; the team stickers and signatures on them cannot be removed or chosen. Souvenir items never carry StatTrak™. There is also the regular version without tournament stickers.

Which stickers suit it

Stickers in blue, teal, silver or white continue the oceanic palette, and holo or foil effects in cool tones match the cyan highlights. Placing them on the painted receiver keeps the craft tied to the pattern, while warm bright colours tend to clash with the dark blue.

What to look at before you buy

  • Check where the float sits within the grade, since a low and a high float in the same wear can look different on the scope and receiver.
  • Look at how the lighter cyan areas fall on the scope and receiver, because the hydrographic layout differs between copies.
  • On worn copies inspect the scope tube and receiver edges first, as they lose paint before anything else.
  • Check any applied stickers and name tag, since they change how the blue finish reads.

Who the Field-Tested quality suits

  • Players who care about the overall colour in game more than about edges.
  • Buyers looking for a cheaper way to the blue look.
  • Conclusion: a practical everyday choice.
