The steel carries cloudy grey and bluish stains that drift across the blade like smoke. In Factory New the stains have their full contrast and the polished steel between them stays bright, so the pattern reads clearly up close.

How the skin looks in Factory New

The blade is covered in a forced patina: cloudy grey, bluish and smoky stains spread over polished steel, with the heaviest blotches along the middle of the curve. The spine carries saw-tooth ridges and three round holes, and the edge and tip stay lighter than the body of the blade. The handle is ivory-coloured with brass rivets and a round brass emblem in the centre, while the finger ring at the end is bare polished steel. On worn copies the edge, the tip and the saw-tooth spine lose their patina first, followed by scratches across the flat of the blade. The placement and darkness of the stains differ from copy to copy.

The patina is intact across the whole blade with full contrast between dark stains and bright steel. The edge, tip and saw-tooth spine show no scratches. The ivory handle and brass rivets look clean. In game the stains read sharply even at arm's length in inspect.
