Skin overview

System Lock keeps its strong colour contrast in this grade: a red lower half, a dark upper receiver and a black barrel. In Field-Tested, light chips appear on the corners of the box magazine and along the stock, but the red fields remain large and solid. At normal viewing distance the weapon still reads as a clean red machine gun.

Item type: machinegun. Mil-Spec Grade is the lowest rarity found in cases and the most common one among them.

Custom Paint Job: hand-painted across the whole body; this is the type where wear shows most, the artwork rubs down to metal.

Other qualities of this skin: Factory New, Minimal Wear, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred. The same quality also exists as the StatTrak™ version.

How the skin looks in Field-Tested

The upper receiver and feed cover are painted dark graphite with thin light-grey panel lines, and the barrel with its handguard area stays black. The lower receiver, the side panels and the handguard sides are covered in bright red, separated from the dark upper part by sharp angular borders.

Small chips become visible on the box magazine corners, the rear edge of the stock and the edges of the red side panels. The central red surfaces stay mostly solid, and the graphite receiver hides light scuffs well. In game the gun still reads as bright red, with wear noticeable mainly on inspection.

Field-Tested quality — float range 0.15–0.38

The whole float range of Souvenir M249 | System Lock is 0–0.8; Field-Tested takes the 0.15–0.38 segment (29% of the scale). Within the range, copies with a lower float look cleaner and are valued higher.

Origin of the skin

The skin’s collection is The Chroma Collection with 14 skins in total.

It drops from Chroma Case (on sale since Jan 8, 2015).

Souvenir version

This is the Souvenir version: such copies dropped to tournament viewers in souvenir packages; the team stickers and signatures on them cannot be removed or chosen. Souvenir items never carry StatTrak™. There is also the regular version without tournament stickers.

Stickers and crafts

Red, black, white and silver stickers fit the scheme best and keep the sci-fi look intact. The dark graphite upper receiver is a good place for bright red or white stickers, which stand out there without clashing with the red lower half.

What to look at before you buy

  • Look at where the float sits within the wear grade, since a low-float copy shows less chipping on the box magazine.
  • Inspect the corners of the red box magazine and the rear of the stock, as these parts lose paint first.
  • Check applied stickers and any name tag, because they change how the clean red-and-black design reads.
  • Decide whether you want the StatTrak™ version, which is available for this skin.

Who the Field-Tested quality suits

  • Players who want a bright red M249 for regular matches.
  • Buyers who do not mind small chips on the box magazine corners.
  • Conclusion: a balanced middle option where the design still reads well in game.
