Skin overview

Blue Steel is recognised by its cold, slightly uneven bluing that shifts between blue and grey depending on the light. In Field-Tested the blade starts to pick up visible scuffs, which add a used, working-tool character that suits this finish. For many players this is where the knife looks natural rather than polished.

Item type: knife. Covert is the top weapon rarity: usually the most prominent items of a collection or case.

Patina: an aged metal surface; wear is part of the design, so the gap between qualities is less visible.

Appearance in Field-Tested

The blade is covered in a dark steel-blue patina, with a lighter silver-blue bevel running along the cutting edge up to the clipped tip. The sawback teeth on the spine carry the same blued finish and stand out as a row of small raised points.

Scuffs spread from the tip and spine onto the flat of the blade, and the edge bevel shows small breaks in the finish. The edges of the guard and pommel begin to lose their bluing slightly. In game the blade looks used but still reads as dark blued steel. The middle of the blade and the grip remain largely clean.

What to look at before you buy

  • Check where the float sits within the wear grade, since the bluing on the tip and spine teeth changes noticeably across the range.
  • Compare the pattern on inspect, because the patina can lean more blue or more grey from copy to copy.
  • Look at the edges of the guard and pommel, as these raised parts lose their bluing early.
  • If you want a tracker, confirm whether the copy is StatTrak™ and whether it carries a name tag.

Who should buy Field-Tested

  • Players who like a used, working-tool look on a survival knife.
  • Buyers looking for a reasonable entry into the blued finish.
  • A practical middle choice for everyday play.
