Skin overview

★ Flip Knife | Scorched covers the back-swept blade and the handle in dark, smoky blotches over a grey base, giving the knife a burnt, muted look. In Factory New the paint is complete, so the soft transitions between the black patches and the lighter grey stay crisp along the whole blade. The factory-new range on this skin is narrow, so a clean copy is the least common way to see it.

Item type: knife. Covert is the top weapon rarity: usually the most prominent items of a collection or case.

Spray-Paint: paint sprayed over the metal; scratches and scuffs appear early but look natural.

How the skin looks in Factory New

The blade is painted in a mottled scheme of black, charcoal and lighter grey, with soft-edged blotches that look like soot over steel; the darker patches gather towards the spine and the tip. The serrated section near the base of the blade carries the same smoky paint, and the pivot area stays in a darker tone. The handle repeats the pattern in a finer dark grey mottling, broken up by the light raised ribs on the grip and the cut-out slot near the bolster. On worn copies the paint goes first from the cutting edge, the tip and the serration teeth, then from the raised ribs and the curved edges of the handle, exposing bare metal.

The paint is intact on the blade, the serrations and the handle. The smoky blotches have clean, soft transitions, and the light ribs on the grip stay sharp against the dark mottling. In game the knife reads as an even dark-grey finish with a clear burnt pattern. Nothing on the edge or the tip shows bare steel.

What to look at before you buy

  • Check the float position within the wear range, since the worn grades on this skin are wide and copies with the same wear name can look quite different.
  • Look at the cutting edge, the tip and the serrations first, as they lose paint before the rest of the knife.
  • Compare the placement of the dark blotches on the blade, because the spray pattern sits differently from copy to copy.
  • Note whether the knife has a StatTrak™ counter or a name tag, as both change the item you are buying.

Who the Factory New quality suits

  • Collectors who want the full, unbroken smoky pattern.
  • Players who prefer a dark, low-key knife with the cleanest possible finish.
  • The top grade for those who value a pristine copy of an uncommon condition.
